PKU attends webinar celebrating HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's 40 years of learning Chinese

Peking University, November 28, 2020: A webinar commemorating HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's 40 Years of learning Chinese and the future development of Chinese teaching in Thailand was held on November 23. This event was attended by Chen Baojian, vice president of Peking University, as well as officials and leaders from the well-known establishments and universities across China and Thailand.

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand delivered a video speech at the opening of the webinar, in which she expounded her views on the development of China-Thailand relations. She described China as the cradle of world civilization that has exerted a profound influence on other countries with its extensive and profound knowledge. She strongly believes that with the deepening of bilateral relations and the expansion of academic exchanges between Thai and Chinese universities, there will be a further increase in the number of Confucius Institutes established in Thai universities to offer courses on Chinese language and culture.

Chen Baojian, who spoke on behalf of PKU President Hao Ping, delivered a speech acknowledging the friendship between China and Thailand. He said that the Confucius Institute jointly established by PKU and Chulalongkorn University will continue to carry out high-quality Chinese language teaching in Thailand to further promote academic exchanges between the two universities and mutual learning between the two cultures.

Zhang Ying, professor of the School of Chinese as a Second Language, was Princess Sirindhorn's teacher when she was a student at PKU. She gave a speech recalling the princess's learning of Chinese and expressed her affection and admiration towards Sirindhorn's love for Chinese culture and support for China-Thailand cultural exchanges.
