DEC . 13 2021
Peking University, December 13, 2021: On the 10th anniversary of the founding of IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU, the 10th Anniversary International Symposium on Brain Science was held from 6 November to 7 November at Peking University (PKU). With Youcai Deng Lecture Hall being the main venue and a livestream, reports were given both online and offline. The symposium invited 26 renowned scholars from prestigious overseas universities and domestic institutions, such as Harvard University, Stanford University, University College London, Beijing Normal University, and CEBSIT of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and emerging young academics were both in attendance. Attendees shared their latest progress in brain science research and interacted with online and offline audiences. An estimated 20,000 viewers were on the livestream to access cutting-edge brain science research.
Robert Desimone, the director of McGovern Institute at MIT, congratulated the 10th anniversary of the founding of IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU. He pointed out that within a decade of development, the Institute has established an advanced international research team and has made outstanding research accomplishments, becoming a globally recognized brain science institution. Quoting donor Mr. McGovern, he believes that “the best is yet to come”, expecting the Institute to accomplish more in the future.
Rao Yi, the director of IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU, extended thanks to Mr. and Mrs. McGovern and International Data Group (IDG) for their support of the Institute. He said that under the auspices of PKU, the Institute has consistently promoted cross-disciplinary research and has made contributions to the study of brain cognition and brain disease. He hopes for the Institute to become an internationally prominent brain science research organization in the next decade.
In alignment with the cross-disciplinary academic feature of the IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU, reports shared in this symposium covered a variety of topics ranging from molecular studies, cellular studies, neural circuits, psychology, and mental disorders.
The symposium was co-hosted by IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU, PKU School of Psychological, and PKU Cognitive Sciences and School of Life Sciences. As one of the landmark academic activities celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Institute, it not only set up a communication platform for peers at home and abroad but marked a new beginning for the development of the Institute, bearing a great deal of significance to cross-disciplinary brain science research and the treatment of brain disease.
