PKU Law School undergraduate Wang Fengquan receives 2021 Rhodes Scholarship

Peking University, November 23: On November 17, the Rhodes Scholarships, one of the most prestigious international scholarship programs in the world, has released its 2021 winners list. Wang Fengquan, an undergraduate student studying at Peking University’s School of Law, stood out among many applicants and became one of the four Chinese students on this year’s list, as well as the fourth law school student in Peking University to make this achievement, making Peking University’s Law School the school with the largest number of award-winning students since the Rhodes Scholarship opened admissions to Chinese mainland students in 2015.
Wang has an outstanding academic record. He received honorary titles and scholarships consecutively, including a national scholarship and a first prize in the O’Melveny Global scholarship program. Having participated in moot court competitions globally, Wang values the opportunities for him to practice his legal skills. With his team, he won the national championship in the 17th CIETAC Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot, and was the runner-up of the Neil Kaplan Award for the Best Oralists in the 18th Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot, ranking first out of 456 oralists.
At the same time, Wang is passionate about volunteer service and charity campaigns. Wang has conducted surveys and research on poverty in Beijing, Tianjing and Hong Kong, as part of the Silk Road Youth Leadership Programme. Additionally, as a member of the Peking University Legal Aid Association, he also organizes various legal aid activities. Wang is the leader of his school’s debate team and is also involved in his internship, having worked at institutions like UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, and King&Wood Mallesons.
Possessing strong patriotism, broad international vision and superb professional skills, Wang is a remarkable representation of Peking University Law School students. In the future, Peking University will maintain its commitment to improving teaching standards, and educating legal talents with innovative spirits and broad global vision for China and the rest of the world.
