[Lecture] Gross-Pitaevskii Equations for BEC

>> Gross-Pitaevskii Equations for Bose-Einstein Condensation

Venue: Room 303, Leo KoGuan Building (of Law School)
Date: May 27, 2014 (Tuesday)
Time: 19:00-21:00
Organizer: Law School

Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE), is a widely used model in different subjects, such as quantum mechanics, condensed matter physics, nonlinear optics etc. Since 1995, GPE has regained considerable research interests due to the experimental success of Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), which can be well described by GPE at ultra-cold temperature. In this talk, the lecturer will mainly focus on the dipolar GPE modeling degenerate dipolar quantum gas. The two important issues in the study of BEC, the ground states and the dynamics, will be discussed. Theoretical and numerical results will be presented. together with some future problems.
